I think the hard, inescapable fact of urban planning is that the poor and desperate need somewhere to live to. And where they live, crime and vice typically follows. <br><br>These people, however, also need somewhere to live. And I think what is remarkable about the Walled City, is how in such chaos a livable place for Hong Kong’s poor was created which gave thousands hope and a piece of the city’s prosperity.<br><br>The Walled City is more a testament to humanities rugged ability to survive than its failure.

What an incredible accomplishment by people just working and living together. Of course a death trap going to collapse at some time but wow. I’m sad that I will never get to visit it.<br>Like just imagine that it was so dense but so functional that if you didn’t want to you would never have to leave. Everything you need was present in there except maybe sunlight and fresh air haha. I am always in awe of it.
