This kid is young, but he really gets it. Don't look at this video as 10,000 views, but as a 10,000 person audience in a stadium. You are are killing it. Solid observations.

Being patient IS also what makes one a great artist, one needs to assume and enjoy in the fullest of their capabilities sitting down and creating life with lines.

It's funny how as an artist we are so fond of art schools but as soon as we get in we want to go independent and drop out 😅

One thing that is KEY about being a good artist (in comics, animation, manga, etc.) is the ability to understand it’s NOT about making a “pretty picture” it’s about how well are you conveying your message. If you say draw the image then paint a whole picture of a cat and someone looks and says “what’s that?” You failed at conveying your message. However if a kid draws a circle then two triangles on each side for ears, and an upside down triangle in the middle for a nose with three lines on each side sticking out, when his mom looks and goes ‘oh a cat!’ Then that kid has effectively done the job of an artist and in less than 20 line strokes! People think it’s about how NICE something looks and it isn’t. That is the job of a good artist: ‘get your message across with no questions asked’. Whenever you draw something (even if you yourself think it’s a ‘bad drawing’) your goal is effectively display whatever it is (even fantasy vehicles. How do you think we understood that the ‘X-Wing’ was Skywalker’s ship? It kinda resembled a plane and when it flew it was believable because the artist did their job and made something that’s not even real fit within the ‘realm of possibility’ as it were.) accurately so that the viewer can identify what it is at FIRST GLANCE. If you’re not able to do that as an artist then there are fundamental flaws in shape language, anatomy and line work that need improvement.

I always procrastinate and then think "you could've been an artist if you practiced since the last time you had this thought." Now that I got into uni, it's finally time to start real progress. Thanks for the inspiration!

30 years later and a ADHD and a chronic illness diagnosis later, I've figured out how to learn things without getting fed up and giving up. The tenacity is unreal.
