  Dwarf Fortress ist still free. Just not the graphics. That means you can still play the most recent version in ASCII-Mode for free. Which i think is very very fair.

  I wish I was cool enough to have played the ASCII version, but around when I was setting it up with a tile set is when the steam version was announced so I just decided to wait. I&apos;ve bought the game 3 times already, for myself and others I just want everyone to know about it it&apos;s so good

  I started PC gaming with ASCII graphics: Rogue, Kingdom Of Kroz, ZZT, Megazeux. Gotta have a little imagination, like reading a good book without illustrations. I&apos;ve never heard of these games, and now I&apos;m really excited to study Dwarf Fortress!
