i mean. having a solid start. probably hazard death benefits for dying by magic. and then having the account remain earning interest for 11 years unmolested in a wizarding gold age. plus then getting the entire black estate at the end. harry was really the boy who dripped.

Modern banks pay interest because they use your money .. If the money is sitting in physical form in piles in a vault and not bookkeeping, then there's no incentive for the goblins to pay interest on it. Whether or not there was further money that the goblins were using is not stated - but it seems like the bank was just a secure storage more akin to a safe deposit box rather than a bank account.
