  Arirang is a Korean folk song. The song itself is estimated to be hundreds of years old. It has its own Wikipedia article if you’re interested in more information/sources. Many people have sung it, but Sohyang’s version is certainly my favorite.

  She is simply the best.  This is a traditional Korean folk song.  Now you are ready for 'I Have Nothing' from the DMC Festival in 2015.  It is unbelievable.  Thanks for the reaction!

  It's a 600+ year old folk song hoping for reunification between North and South Korea. Great reaction for reactors who really appreciate her.  She's a legend and can sing any genre, include rap, rock, pop, jazz, etc. 😊😊

  Arirang has no direct translation to English but the idea it represents is along the lines of very hard work or diligent struggle. The song is based on a Korean folk song that has evolved over a period of 600 years and now is an allegory for their desire to reunite north and south.<br><br>Sohyang is difficult to rationally explain. She might have died from cervical cancer when she was 20 but credits God with her healing. Yet a bad blood transfusion at the time of the surgery left her with hepatitis B. Normally that is easily cured with antibiotics but this was the rare incurable variety so it plagues her to this day with a compromised immune system and she contracts pneumonia rather often. For a four year period from 2016 to 2020 she was battling it eight different times and was almost out of circulation in the musical community. Thus Sohyang knows what it is to be chronically ill for a lengthy period of time but again credits God with teaching her invaluable spiritual lessons from it. She has largely been fine since then but did come down with covid19 for two weeks in the summer of 2022. Thankfully she recovered well and at the age of 48 sings as excellently today as she ever has. You are right when the thought comes to mind that there is no way this woman is 48! She looks 10 or 15 years younger, at least! But it is true. She was born on April 5, 1978, and was a stunning 37 year old when this was recorded in 2015! 🤷‍♂<br><br>Professional &quot;super star&quot; level music producers (David Foster), singers (Michael Bolton and Josh Groban), teachers (Seth Riggs) and vocal coaches by the boat load are pretty well stupefied at how much talent is wrapped up in this tiny five foot four inch, 100 pound woman. Sohyang has trained her central nervous system to the point, and developed such articulate muscular control, that her singing technique is perfect. She is considered a master singer. Literally. Again Sohyang gives the credit to the divine entity, stating her voice &quot;is from God.&quot; Obviously she has taken her singing talent to the nth degree, and tells others who want to enter the world of professional singing that they must be born with a good voice and then work very hard to develop it. But this barely scratches the surface of who Sohyang is and how talented she is on stage. Her stage presence and body language are unmatched in my experience, much like what Elvis Presley had fifty years ago but different, of course, since she is a sincere Christian woman and believes in presenting herself in modest yet excellent quality theatrical attire and with absolute confidence and purpose at all times.<br><br>I have also found these high production value South Korean music presentations to be as good as you will find anywhere on the planet. They show Sohyang in the best fashion possible and these seem, to me, as good as you would find at <i>any</i> of the Grammy Awards in their heyday. When you add a Super Star talent like Sohyang to the show, everyone who watches it is quite rightly blown away. 👀😮💥👌😎🎸🎙👽🛸💖💖💖

  I didn’t see your first reaction, but you made up for this time. As someone who has followed her for 10 years, I understand when her fans actually get angry at any perceived disrespect. We are very very protective of this very special woman. If you want to see something very unexpected from her, watch her rap to the song Day Day. Make sure it’s from the Begin Again series. Great job guys.!!!

  So Hyang had a peak in about 2015 singing on these competitions but then began to suffer multiple bouts of some form of pneumonia, possibly as a result of Hep-B she got reportedly as a result of a bad blood transfusion during her cancer surgery. It got so bad that she almost gave up singing. She left for New York and visited around until she saw a billboard in Philly which had a Roosevelt quote &quot;The only thing we have to fear is fear itself!&quot;. She thought of the regret she might have in 5 years of giving in to her fears and decided to go back to Korea and take the first singing offer which was The King of Mask competition, which she won 6 times in a row, even though she felt at a fraction of her best. She was encouraged that even not at her best, people still loved her performances. Along the way, her health became manageable and sh went busking with BeginAgainKorea where she sang several great covers, such as &quot;I Will Always Love You&quot;. So Hyang has become a very good song writer and released an album in Nov 2024, &quot;Diva&quot; where she gave credit to 90&apos;s divas like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and others whom she imitated to learn her techniques. One song from &quot;Diva&quot; is &quot;&apos;Til You Love Me Again&quot; which she was able to do on a KBS program &quot;Moving Voices&quot;, a 10 day busking tour of Mallorca and Munich, Germany, along with other great covers, &quot;Angel&quot;, &quot;I&apos;ll Never Love Again&quot;, &quot;Go Easy On Me&quot; and &quot;Listen&quot;. She is currently, since January, releasing one original song a month at at the end of the year, I think it will be released as an album. She takes the best care of her health that she can and, hopefully, it will allow her to continue for many years to come!
