  Sooo shocked that this Duchess has descendants on the throne today! Marie Antoinette lost EVERYTHING, but the Polignac line not only survived the revolution, they eventually thrived. It really shows how one decision (to leave vs. to stay) can change a family&apos;s history forever. 🤯

  There is a lot more to the relationship of the Polignacs with Marie Antoinette than just the friendship with Gabrielle. The historian John Hardman in his biography of M-A suggests that there could have been some blackmail involved over the real paternity of Louis-Charles and Sophie-Beatrix. As her closest friend Gabrielle would have known when her relationship with Count Axel von Fersen became sexual and it’s entirely reasonable to assume that M-A stopped being intimate with the King after she produced the long-awaited heir to the throne in 1781. I think this is an area that’s worth more investigation which would help us understand the full picture of her relationship with the Polignacs.
