  Boy did this remind me of just how old my bike is. Seth keeps talking about how outdated things are and how few people will need to know these things, every single thing you did is relevant maintenance on my bike for me. But she&apos;s still trucking and gets me where I&apos;m going

  Things I don&apos;t miss about bikes from that era: Chains dropping behind the cassette; chains dropping on small chainring (chain suck) on the bottom bracket; rims getting out of true easily; vee-brake rub; super tight tolerances for a clean shifting; rampant pinch flats; square taper cranks loosening; grips loosening; spokes loosening; 135 mm stems; chainslap; teeth grinding mishifts; bar end loosening on a hard move; etc. &nbsp;But damn hella fun riding times--especially 24 hr racing.

  I do really appreciate the deep detail of the hub servicing. This is something super useful that most lay-people would be able to do themselves, but can be intimidating and lead to people getting rid of whole bikes when it could just need some bearing servicing. &nbsp; Also I&apos;ve had SSSOOOOO many of the exact same bottlecage...always warped and twisted from cramming Tall-Cans and Gatorades in there

  Man I grew up with a Rockhopper made just 4 years later. Almost the same specs. You call it ugly - I call it gorgeous! Great vid, Seth!

  I&apos;m 40 years old and I still ride the Trek 4500 I bought back as a freshman or sophomore in HS just about everyday. I commute to work with it and put studs on in the winter to ride as well. &nbsp;I converted it to a 1x9 (well worth the time and cheap parts) and have a modern XT derailleur, otherwise it&apos;s quite the same. I&apos;ve gone through at least 3 wheels front and rear (rims exploded). I don&apos;t have it in me to ever part with this bike. It always reminds me of why I fell in love with mtb and how far I&apos;ve come as a rider and also bike innovation over 20+ years. It&apos;s still a hoot to ride and I hope this bike and I die of old age together. Thanks for this video Seth. A good reminder that you don&apos;t have to have a $5k bike to have fun but admittedly, modern bikes are so much more fun (and capable).

  Hey Seth! I used to watch you around 2018-2020 and had a bike around that time as well. Ended up not riding for a few years because of life. Then you popped back up in my recommended randomly a few weeks ago. You cost me $1600 for a Trek Rosco this morning lol, loving being back on a bike and glad to see you’re doing better than ever!
