  moving into my first apartment as a woman has made this genre 10000x harder to stomach. Every little sound has me urging to buy a conveniently accessible axe 💀

  The baby sitter calls the parents and tells them that she&apos;s put the children to bed. &quot;But can I put a blanket over this ugly clown statue?&quot;<br>The parents gasped and said &quot;get the fuck out of my house, you&apos;ve insulted my clown statue&quot;

  I loved the distinction between horror with houses in it and horror of the familiar. Instantly pinned down the main concept right away

  I personally really like the original strangers. I feel it being boring is kinda the point, I feel you’re not supposed know they’re next step. And that line “you were home” is just so scaryyyy to me.

  I think Funny Games is still at the top of this list for me. It’s extremely raw but also unreal and goofy in multiple scenes. What really gets me is the killer asking for something as simple as the time while they commit their horrendous acts and then the audience is lead to believe that they’re about to go and do the same thing again to another innocent family on the lake. Movie left me nervously laughing.

  I personally enjoyed The Strangers precisely because it made me genuinely unsettled during a time I thought I was desensitized to any horror that didn’t rely on gross extreme shock value measures. Sure it did get bleak and violent, but I think the tension is what got to me. That silent jumpscare of the masked man in the corner is very effective. That and the “because you were home” dialogue was really genuinely chilling to me. Even the dvd menu was creepy as hell.

  I love horror, but this is the one sub genre of horror I can’t touch. The Strangers messed me up and I have no desire to ever see it again. In fact, I set a rule afterward, no horror that is “too” real.

  “The babysitter and the man upstairs “. The classic urban legend. Nothing scares me more than &nbsp;home invasion horror. Halloween and Black Christmas being my favorites.

  “Lunatics can lick too” is how my mom told it to me when I was little - yes my mom was awesome.
