  My mom transferred my records without me knowing, so you can imagine my surprise when I opened my door in Taiwan and found a pair of Sisters standing there. What a jump-scare!

  My bestfriend&apos;s mom was a Mormon and when she died, the step-dad and kids quit going. They were knocking on their door weekly harassing them to come back. They would even bring the kids gift and candy. Once my friend loudly voiced &quot;youre a cult and I dont want to be a part of it&quot;, they would no longer interact with her, while still bringing the other kids stuff. Mormonism being a cult was on my radar even 18 years ago. Telling grieving kids they won&apos;t see their mom in heaven is evil.

  A friend from Chile became Mormon in Canada just to meet people. He hated it, moved back to Chile, and was working nights at a gas station in one of Santiago’s roughest neighbourhoods when missionaries tracked him down to ask why he’d quit.

  The notary who handled my resignation letter was astounded that that was even required to leave a church. &nbsp;Even called a few other employees over to see that nonsense. &nbsp;But it&apos;s not a cult! /s

  I stopped attending the church when I was 14. 15 years later, in another state, members of the local ward started showing up at my house asking to speak to me by name (they had no record of my husband, so would not abide his repeated polite but firm insistence that they leave us alone). &nbsp;It turned out that the bishop of my childhood ward asked my mother for my address, and she just gave it to them because saying &quot;no&quot; was too uncomfortable for her. &nbsp;I ended up mailing a certified letter to the membership office demanding my records be removed and no further contact. &nbsp;Ultimately, they abided by the request and mailed me a confirmation letter informing me I was removed, but only after sending the local bishop to confirm with me that I really made the request, not that sinful Nevermo husband of mine. &nbsp;My mom giving them my address absolutely triggered my official removal; I had been content to just be an inactive member before that.

  My best friend went to a Mormon Sunday school on the west coast as a kid, not even knowing what it was. About 25 years later, having moved to the east coast, Mormon missionaries turned up on our doorstep telling her she&apos;s a member and inviting her to come to church. It took literally a full on screaming meltdown renouncing religion as a whole to get them to stop showing up, and it took about a year of back and forth and arguing with the local bishop to get her out of their records. Absolutely insane.

  Never-mo here. My dad joined the church with his 1st wife LONG before I was born, had their sealing ceremony in the temple with my half brother, who was about 5 at the time. My brother’s mom died when he was 11, and when dad got together with my never-mo mom, he stopped attending. My brother has been all-in for about 45 years now, and his wife &amp; kids are also devout members. When my dad died, he hadn’t attended church in decades; my brother insisted on dressing Dad in his garments before he was cremated, and when my never-mo mom went to the mortuary to pick up his remains, somehow there were elders standing by her car when she came out of the building. F-ing creepy that even in death they couldn’t leave him alone and predatory that they were right there at my mom’s car to “comfort her” in her grief.
