About the last video:

No, that type of sponsorship was never meant to be a reoccurring thing on this channel, for full transparency the only reason I did it was to help pay for my college tuition, unfortunately in North America education can be expensive. Originally there was supposed to be 2 videos with the same integration, however I reached out to the sponsor and modified the agreement to one video (the previous vid) which also meant modifying the payout, because I need to remember that the community I've had the privilege to be apart of is more important than monetary gain, even if it was towards something positive. For everyone who still decides to support me, thank you, and I appreciate your forgiveness. For everyone else I am thankful for the support you've given until now and I completely understand you're decision. I do have another sponsored video coming out soon, however it is one I've done before and nothing like the previous one.

Anyways I hope you enjoy this video!

I don't think people initially understand how impressive the art style is of avatar legends cause handdrawn 2d sprites is hella effort and the gameplay is very expressive and fast like melee

Grappler, Zoner, Rushdown, Shoto. Long ago the four achetypes lived together in harmony. Until the modern FGC attacked.

Something I always love about the beautiful hand drawn animations is every slow down you get after round end shows off how well drawn it is. I feel like the characters look 1:1 with how they look in the show and that is so cool to me.

First smooth online fighting game experience for me, wish more players were on but it's a great time.

I think Avatar is so popular partly because the gameplay is sick, it feels really good to play, the combos are nasty, the pace is great. It feels like a fighting game players fighting game. Mostly though, I think it's because it came in with zero expectation. Look at Tokon; the PC port was a mess sure but contrast it with Avatar? Tokon is a much more complete package, Avatar came out with unfinished characters, no ranked mode, no spectator lobbies etc

So why the difference in tone? I think it's because some games in the FGC get overhyped before release, you get people saying this game is gonna save the FGC or they're coming from a big studio like Arc Sys or Riot. So when the game comes out, people see the faults and they feel disappointed. They feel let down and that reflects what they say about the game. Avatar came out with basically 0 hype in the community, people were aware of it sure but it wasn't seen as this big thing. Plus it was a cheaper title which I think helps.

So when you couple the genuinely great gameplay ( apart from a few minor things, i've very few complaints about the games systems, balance sure but every game ever has balancing issues and they aren't horrendous in Avatar, literally every character is viable) and the fact that it didn't have this weight of expectation behind it people are just happy to overlook the flaws in the product.

As a side note, I think although other games would never get away with it, releasing without ranked actually helped the feel good vibes around this game. People were just playing man, long sets as well. Just playing to improve and get better. who cares if you've lost 30 games in a row, run it back. In fact, i'd go as far to say, and this is purely anecdotal but i basically saw no real complaints about balance or anything else until ranked dropped, at the very least the frequency and visibility increased.

Once you dangle imaginary points that determine your value as a player, and by extension for some, a person, in front of people then suddenly losing becomes real and people get more toxic. It's never going to happen but i'd love for us to move into a post ranked world. I've always thought the best of both worlds was fightcade's system for 3rd strike, where it's ELO and you do have a rank next to your name but the actual points are never displayed, game to game you don't know what you've lost, what you've gained, how many points to demotion or promotion so you just play sets and try to get better. I genuinely think it's watching the number go up or down that sends people crazy.

Sorry for the long comment.

Unfinished fighting games usually exercise a lot less restraint on the players, letting me do lots of crazy stuff that feels unintentional. It feels like I'm breaking the limits of the game in the most badass way, like the old "you can punch your bullets to make them go faster" trick in Ultrakill. The hilarity of stuff like it makes it so much better and dips into the "styling on your opponent for the hell of it" and the "man I'm just doin' some BULLSHIT" feelings that I play fighting games for.

It has its certain charm how it is now, but I also can’t deny how unbelievably good the animations are they’re adding for ozai, avatar aang and especially nightmare Korra

I believe the problem is not visual polish, it's always project managing.
Feels like they really want to do the 2D animation style, but not very aware of how hard it is to realize it.
