  At <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyA2vS7sJZI&amp;t=254">4:14</a>, That speech synthesis chip was Votrax SC-01, not Vortrex. I programmed that chip myself in the late 70s.

  I delivered Gorf to the backstage area of a Rush concert in Cleveland in 1981! &nbsp;Got backstage passes for the show (two nights/sold out). &nbsp;Great game. &nbsp;Great band.

  I actually worked for Bally/Midway from 1977-1982. &nbsp;I was in the factory in Franklin Park, Il, at the end of the production line as a repair tech, and later lead tech repairing ckt boards that came off the line with problems. &nbsp;They did all the fab work there from board etching to drilling to component placement to wave soldering. &nbsp;Boards that passed initial tests went to the Belmont facility for installation in the cabinets. &nbsp;The failures came to my department for troubleshooting. &nbsp;I wrote the field service manual for Galaxian. &nbsp;So, Space invaders through Galaga and Burger Time and Rally-X I worked on. &nbsp;I left the company as the arcade crash was happening. &nbsp;I have many very fond memories of that period! &nbsp;Some, not so fond-The Home Video Arcade game, AKA Astrocade, from Nutting &amp; Assoc was one not so fond memory. &nbsp;:-).

  It would mock you when your ship got hit. Remember “Ha. Ha. Ha. Space Kaaa-Det”? Space Invaders was my first love, and the first arcade game I got pretty good at, so GORF was a natural evolution. I loved everything about it - the beautiful cabinet, the flight stick, the colorful sprites, the variety of the game play, the ability to abort an errant shot, the sound effects and voices, and of course that ridiculously long and loud explosion when you finally hit the mother ship’s reactor core.

  I had GORF on my VIC-20, one of the most satisfying things for me was the moment you hit the mothership on the mark, time seemed to slow down for a fraction of a second just before the explosion graphics. I didn&apos;t have the voice module, I didn&apos;t know it existed..
