  As a young postulant bibliomancer, I made the journey to Tiānkōng Jìtán to participate in the recording of oral histories and the technical work of restoring ancient documents. At 16k feet, it takes acclimatization and many induction treatments to handle the altitude long term. The monasteries were shaped from living rock as is the Zhìhuì Bǎolěi library. I remember sitting on the railing at the fortress, watching storm clouds boiling below while above there was only a perfect - if chilly - summer day. The younger monks were flying beautiful kites with little bells along the strings, and the smell of burning pine from the ink workshops blended with the steam from my Zhengshan xiaozhong. Once again, this old librarian smiles at the lovely memories you've painted as if new.

  A magnificent and magical journey by train. 45 years ago I was a stranger in a strange land. I travelled by train for three days, from Toronto to Vancouver. That trip haunts me to this day. Instructions confused me where a wrong understanding would have left me stranded without help or support. The scary moments overshadowed the epic sceneries outside the windows. Vast open plains stretching from horizon to horizon, the Rockies, thick dark forests where deer stared back at me. I left Toronto at night covered in deep snow and arrived in Vancouver in early morning sunlight. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ko3si5ZCxTo&amp;t=393">6:33</a> that scene was me arriving in Vancouver to start a new life.
