Around the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn5sRG-5gO0&t=805">13:25</a> mark I misspoke when giving the dates for the westward expansion under Mithridates - it should be the 150s and 140s BC, not the 250s and 240s. I'm not quite sure how I managed to miss this, my apologies!

Fun fact: the Parthian language (called Pahlavi) spread through Media and Atropatene (Azerbaijan) during the Arsacid period, partially absorbing and replacing the local Median language, resulting in a particular dialect of Parthian that survived the rise and fall of both the Sassanian empire and the Arab caliphates. The majority of Azerbaijanis spoke this language until about the 16th century, and it still survives in a number of villages there (though it is a critically endangered language).

The Chinese name for the Parthian state is 安息, likely an attempt to recreate the pronunciation of Aršak (the native name of Arsaces). The literal reading would be "peaceful rest" and the sentiment of "resting in peace" can be used euphemistically exactly as in English. Imagine having an empire basically called "Die" sitting a stone's throw away, even if you do maintain good relations.

There's nothing better than learning a little bit every day. The Parthian Empire, like the Seleucid Empire and even older empires such as the Hittites, left enormous legacies in history. Ultimately, the history of humanity will always be full of surprises and great stories. ❤😊😃

What was mistaken as a “wart” on the coin (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn5sRG-5gO0&t=1206">20:06</a>) is actually describing a mole & not a wart, and it’s a common hereditary trait people have, as you may know some moles usually appear at the same spot on your body as they were on your parents body which in Iranian culture always was a way to legitimize a King to the throne specifically if this mole was on his face or neck this very seemingly not important trait would sometimes play a big role in the succession of the throne because it would immortalize the image of the King for generations, as some kings were often described by their unique mole, it is referred to as the royal mole or the “Khal e Ajdadi” in Iranian culture. Still is a common irony in our culture and taken as a compliment if people do have a unique mole that is similar to their parents or grandparents.
