Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do learn from history are doomed to watch those who didn't lead the country.

I’d say Mussolini began as hitler’s mentor but quickly was made into hitler’s cheerleader.

Germany definitely teaches humility regarding the 40s. Cause there's a VERY deep seated remorse in the general population around that time frame. More so considering it led directly to the Soviet occupation of half of Germany up until the downing of the Berlin Wall

Former History/G'vt teacher here. We taught this shit. It was on the test. The evacuation of Dunkirk? Yep. Kids just aren't interested by this stuff. Now that you've grown up and know how the world works, you are interested in how the hell we got here.

My grandfather turned 18 the day after the British declared war. He told me most of what he saw and participated in the war. He dropped leaflets, participated in the Battle of Britain, Battle of Atlantic, but he never spoke of the Battle of Normandy. He also oversaw German POWs. He treated them so well they made him shoes from the leather they were using in the camp for making binocular cases. He had to reprimand them for it and didn’t enjoy doing so. I was lucky to learn from a first person perspective.

Mussolini was a journalist, writing against everything he became. When he got power is when he changed. You know what they say about power.

“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely," comes from John Dalberg-Acton
