A tip for those hunting erthyrite crystals for cobalt, get a T4 focused cutteray for the buggy as that will give you max aluminum yields but great erthyrite. You really need a metric ton of aluminum and unless you're going to use a second buggy with a T3 focused cutteray this is the best setup. If you build your base near Pinnacle station then you can take the ramp down into the rift, take the first left off ramp, then follow it until you get to the first mine. Super easy, great yields, and no getting lost there or back.

eastern shield wall - ironworks and slaver camps for water within 30 seconds, all the aluminium and basalt, also cobalt paste and silica just a skip and a hop away

My first base goes at the bottom of the hill where the Planetologist is located.
My second base was originally right by The Anvil because my husband and I play together and he liked that spot, but I prefer the top of Western Vermilius.
My end game spot preference has changed. I love the idea of being on the shieldwall and having the view, but I don't actually live in my base -- I don't spend a lot of time RP'ing and gazing out over the basin, I'm flying in and out and doing my crafting. The upper left corner of the map, or top left side, is more practical for endgame since you spend the majority of your time traveling and being at the edge of the map makes it faster to get just about anywhere. And on solo games, you're not having to rush after spice blows and downed ships to get them before someone else.

oh man i loved the rift, my favorite part of hagga basin. always built my main base at the bottom of a rock tower right on top of the rift. had a pass through at the bottom, i'd just shield up both ends creating a big sheltered garage and then build the rest of the base on top of that.

My midgame, pre scout on the island north of testing station 13. The island has a lot of iron on it, you can cross the sand in a buggy to get to carbon and aluminum easily without risk. You’re also near the main chest locations for complex machinery and there is a lot of water near there.

After I get a scout I move to my endgame spot near testing station 17, north of the atraides base. There is a lot of batteries, plastone and aluminum here with a quick exit to the overworld map.

Prior to the midgane I like east of the anvil base due to a lot of water fields being near by.

The Deathstills were super important back a few updates ago, but when they made the changes to the windtraps to allow them to shut off when water was filled, the deathstills became for emergency use only IMO. The windtraps are the workhorse that keep you in the water, deathstills are for when you're doing extra production. I haven't powered on my advanced deathstills in months... almost a year, in fact.

Yeah I was going to say farming jasmium is horrid without a pitstop base. But you did mention it. The only thing I would add is for pitstop, is it doesn't hurt to place like 1 cistern and 1 basic Windtrap. That way you can go back and forth worrying About keeping your character hydrated. But other than that, just have only storages and 1 to 2 generators.

My favorite early/mid base location is the north end of the island with Mirzabah, the giant rock hammer formation.
It's near the Anvil, you can easily run straight north though a gap in the quicksand to the Gap.
There's a cave/camp right there too with a bunch of mobs that respawn relatively fast. I setup 2-3 Improved blood purifiers and just occasionally run through that camp. They drop blood extractors and bags too. Never have to craft any. I occasionally quick run through the and keep the purifiers running and water topped off. By the time I get to working on a buggy I'm not hurting for water at all. I then transport water to my next base in Eastern Shield Wall and have plenty until I get a deathstill running.
I always focus on progression while questing though. Not sure if it would work as well if speed running scout & deathstill.
