  The morale of the story…Don’t take side but build up your own defence even if you are a small country . Respect one’s religion , culture and race.

  To younger Singaporeans, don't be complacent and think that we are safe from our friendly neighbours. We are like a fly to them that they would love to eliminate in a heartbeat if the opportunity arises. All it takes is a crazy leader with an excuse. I still have blood-relatives in Malaysia but I'm not naive to think that it changes anything. Stay vigilant and don't take peace for granted. We are like a tiny expensive hut surrounded by mountains.

  Pretty accurate...he knows the history well, and how important our SAF is👏👏👏👏👏👏<br><br>Just a minor correction at @<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kai2BiwRPs0&amp;t=1032">17:12</a> , gentleman said &quot;ever wondered why our Foreign Minister has never been Chinese in ethnicity?&quot;, actually there was, George Yeo (ethnic Chinese) was Foreign Minister between 2004 and 2011. <br><br>But he is right to say, we are NOT a Chinese country, not a Malay country, not an Indian country. And therefore we of course never will say &quot;we are a Chinese country&quot;, and we want to make sure no one sees us as that.

  The security aspect of Singapore&apos;s armed forces is &nbsp;important, but &nbsp;we should also know its contributions towards nation building in the form of character and capability of our young men as well as the development of Singapore&apos;s arms industry..

  Today’s Singapore armed forces is very different from its founding days. SAF has permanent training bases and detachments across the world - in U.S., Australia, Thailand, Brunei, Taiwan, France and training in many others. <br><br>We now have the most advanced weapons and capabilities, train in vast spaces every year - very few militaries that are not superpowers have the capacity to conduct large scale exercises every year.

  I was actually activated in 1998-1999 when Malaysia threatened to cut off the water supply. That was the time I understand that we are never safe and having our own defence team is very important.

  one point to add, Singapore also asked india to set up our militry but got declined as india were facing their own challenges. As mentioned Egypt declined too and only israel helped us to set up our militry.
