<b>Key Points to Remember After You Watch The Video. (Thank Me Later):</b><br>1. Insulin is the most important hormone in your body because it manages how your organs use energy (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU">0:00</a>).<br><br>2. When you eat, insulin tells your body to store extra energy in fat cells so it can be used later (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=243">4:03</a>).<br><br>3. Insulin resistance happens when your body ignores insulin, forcing your pancreas to work extra hard by making even more of it (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=1080">18:00</a>).<br><br>4. Even if your blood sugar test looks normal, you can still have high insulin levels that cause health problems (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=53">0:53</a>).<br><br>5. Many people with insulin resistance do not have diabetes yet, but they are at risk for heart disease and some cancers (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=65">1:05</a>).<br><br>6. High insulin levels can act like a warning sign in women by causing issues like irregular periods and fertility problems (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=1307">21:47</a>).<br><br>7. You can spot high insulin through skin changes, like dark patches or skin tags around the neck and body creases (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=1455">24:15</a>).<br><br>8. You do not need to be overweight to have insulin resistance, as some people carry harmful fat inside their belly around their organs (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=2333">38:53</a>).<br><br>9. Eating highly processed foods like white bread and soda causes fast blood sugar spikes that stress your body out (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=841">14:01</a>).<br><br>10. You can help reverse insulin resistance by choosing complex carbohydrates instead of simple, sugary ones (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=906">15:06</a>).<br><br>11. Exercise helps because muscles can burn up blood sugar for energy without needing insulin at all (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=2636">43:56</a>).<br><br>12. Both aerobic exercise and strength training are great, but the most important thing is simply to stay active and consistent (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=2717">45:17</a>).<br><br>13. Stress and not getting enough regular sleep can mess up your hormones and make insulin resistance worse (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=2798">46:38</a>).<br><br>14. You should look at your family history and body shape to understand your own personal health risks instead of just relying on average numbers (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=1745">29:05</a>).<br><br>Hope I hit 100K subscribers soon.... so my dad stops thinking I’m wasting time helping people. 💪💪💪

I have grown to believe that it is best NOT to eat anything at all between meals, and nothing at all for 3-4 hours before going to bed at night. If you continuously graze all day long, you never give your insulin/glucose a chance to cycle back to base levels, so you spend ALL day in a high-insulin state. I believe this is why we become insulin resistant, this near constant state of high insulin present in the blood. Insulin is an extremely important hormone, but too much for too long leads to metabolic imbalance.

The lower the insulin, the better I feel! 4.8 at age 72 😊

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWqAzY8oIDU&t=2249">37:29</a><br><br>This is <i>very</i> important. The people who develop insulin resistance are those who cannot add fat in a metabolically healthy way. This is why 20% of obese people are metabolically healthy (they are able to add fat in a metabolically healthy way) and this is also why 80% of normal weight people are insulin resistant (because they are not able to add fat in a metabolically healthy way).

Please Zoe, interview Roy Taylor. He's the most knowledgeable person on t2d and has designed the protocol now used by the NHS. He's in the uk. The problem is that the NHS will only pay for the protocol when a person has reached full diabetes, not as a preventative intervention. Utterly insane but that says everything about the state of healthcare in the uk. It's should be called sickcare instead of healthcare.

Great episode. It's programs like this that helped me recognize and address my insulin resistance. My doctors ignored the signs - high triglycerides, low HDL, skin tags, obesity, blood pressure, etc. Maybe doctors just don't know. You have to take your health into your own hands and educate yourself. Thanks to the doctor and interviewer.

I feel I'm in a catch 22 situation. I'm overweight, but I follow Zoé to the nth degree. But due to arthritis, exacerbated by cancer and radiotherapy, exercise is very difficult and painful for me. I've got an elliptical trainer I can use sitting down, but my target is to simply stay mobile enough to be self sufficient. Nobody discusses these circumstances on your podcasts, yet I believe there will be many people in similar circumstances. Please can you address this . Many thanks.

Listening to this begs the question why do Drs test for Hb A1c and not for blood insulin levels?

I was terrified about my blood sugar and brain health 🙃 then I read Stop Feeding Disease by Mark Keller and finally understood the connection. He explains how food affects insulin and your brain simply. I changed my eating and my numbers improved. I dropped 20lbs and my mind is so clear now. Feels like a total lifesaver honestly))

Hyperglycemia seems to be a continuum with the healthy HbA1c range about 4.7 to 5.0. Damage/pathologies seem to slowly start developing in the low 5 range, initially stressing the pancreas to make more insulin (beta cell depletion?). <br><br>The arbitrary/statistical numbers for defining prediabetes and diabetes seem more for bureaucratic decision-making than for disease prevention (Blood glucose 126mg (48 mmol/mol (6.5%)) is where researchers observed retinopathy?). Many people develop microvascular ocular complications and/or other pathologies without ever ‘officially’ having diabetes.<br><br>Wouldn’t it be more helpful to start nutritional/other intervention earlier BEFORE named pathologies develop? Or even earlier, treat hyperinsulinemia?
