  I visited sri Lanka with my family in February 2026. I am Indian Tamil. We enjoyed very much. Very good people. Hospitality is very high. Neat and clean country.

  Spent 3 months in Sri Lanka in 1991. Loved my time there. Beautiful and unspoilt. Really sad and concerned to see that huge monster building on the stunning coast. So out of keeping. What about all the waste water and sewage? And the drain on natural resources and water supply? I understand they need to build up the economy etc at what cost to the environment? I'm doubtful there will be any control. Money talks. Thanks for sharing.

  I am a Singaporean living in Bali for many years. I visited Sri Lanka in 2023 and fell in love with the beauty of the country, not just the beaches.  I pray that big scale developments don't kill the soul of the country and its wonderful people.  I absolutely love Sri Lanka ❤

  WOW, my wife is from Sri Lanka, and we have had this same conversation many times. I have told her that the hotels like the ones you have shown are not good for Sri Lanka. From the first time I visited Sri Lanka I fell in love with the country, and its people. I understand that the country needs investments, but the government needs to keep it in check. I hope the government does not make the beaches private for hotel guests like they have done in other countries. I could go on and on but I'm sure people get the point. LOVE Sri Lanka.

  Turtles heavily rely on those sandy beaches to lay eggs. Overcrowding of environmentally critical areas means the destruction of the natural flora and fauna of those areas.

  Thank you for this thought-provoking video.<br><br>As an elderly Sri Lankan botanist, I find the rush to build tall buildings along the coast rather disheartening and even frightening. The coastal vegetation was never properly restored after the 2004 tsunami destroyed it. It has been and is being replaced by buildings. If Pasikudah is anything to go by, local people will be prevented from enjoying their own beaches and fishermen will lose their traditional access to the sea in these newly built up areas in the south. There should not be any buildings right on the beach as some of the structures you showed seem to be. The Ritz Carlton building is a monstrosity. If the architecture is in keeping with our own modern architecture, i.e., the Tropical Modernism of Geoffrey Bawa, then I can accept some building along the coast with landscaped gardens leading up to the beach. Unfortunately, all of these lovely places will end up looking like Brighton in the UK: a lot of buildings and no trees. Depending so much on a fickle business like tourism is a mistake. What is also astonishing is the seeming lack of attention paid to climate change and potential sea level rises.<br><br>I fear we could end up being like Bali as there doesn&apos;t seem to be any thought put into preserving what is good and unique about Sri Lanka, especially its fragile natural environment.<br><br>23/06/2026: Commenting further. In the immediate aftermath of the 2004 tsunami, the government came up with the &quot;no-build buffer zone&quot; (100 m from the sea in the south and 200 m in the east). The original residents in the buffer zone were moved inland and were given land and houses were built for them. Unfortunately, these new houses were too inland and inconvenient for fishermen. Some of them moved back to their old homes in the buffer zone, others sold their land in the buffer zone illegally. It seems to me the Ritz Carlton building, being so close to the sea, must be in the buffer zone. So, who gave them permission to build? Who owned this land before? I do hope it wasn&apos;t people who lost their lives in the tsunami.
