actually i think rats irl do just breathe really fast and that's probably why the Dark Souls rats do that, not necessarily because their lungs are ruined. have you ever watched rats or mice just, doin their thing? they do EVERYTHING crazy fast like they're always on fast-forward lol

It's sad how the hollows at the elevator of New Londo seem to be the people who made it out but probably had that annoying thing that happens to us where the elevator wasn't already down so it was probably locked from the top meaning they gave to despair then and there.

Hollows are the perfect expression of a (real) depression

I was listening to this when an epiphany struck me:

You sound a little bit like Lautrec

I assume the barricades in undeadburg were very much to contain spread of something, but rather a plague, it was the hollows. the townsfolk and defensive soldiers attempted to contain the spread as if it was some medieval zombie virus that you can just contain into the lower levels and forget about. but since being undead is not a disease, it doesnt exactly care of such barricades.
it is curse from the gods, and no matter how tender or how exquisite, a lie will remain a lie.

Nothing is more horrifying than the Chaos Eaters. I've been playing the game for the first time, and Lost Izalith was traumatic for me bc I fucking HATE the Chaos Eaters. Looking at them for too long makes me want to throw up.

To add onto the rat comment someone said already, if they do breathe like normal rats, that means they’re most likely needing to eat the amount a regular rat would, but at their massive size, it would mean they would need to eat about 150,000 calories PER DAY to survive (which is roughly one human a day, assuming they’re able to get the calories from every square inch of a person, and not factoring in the consumption of hollows, who are literally skin and bones, as well as bioavailability). That’s the tragedy; they’re either starving or eating, getting bigger all the while, meaning they need to eat more and more. It’s probably why the well-fed rat is so big, it’s because it’s able to get to that size with regular feeding. The other rats? They’re stuck at that size and starving, so they can’t get bigger (which might be for the best, because the bigger they get, the more they need to eat, and in a food scarce environment, that’s a death sentence).

I really wish the dark wraith was a transformation like the dragon is complete with the same idle animation and footstep and breathing sounds.
Also even worse than the hollows in new londo that don't attack you are the "bodies" with items on them, they're not dead they are so hollowed they are in a vegetative state and might as well be dead even if they're technically not... You still see the dark sign on those bodies.

In the remaster you can actually take a bow & arrow and end the parasite head from afar. You don't have to be directly up on the thing. When not cheesing blight town I get on a perch past the first Bondfire and let loose.
