i interpreted joy as representing how women (especially woc) can often become frustrated by their male counterparts who are quick to speak over them in a work setting. we barely got an idea of who joy was in the first few episodes because ogilvie was overshadowing her, and her apathy was reflective of her disinterest in trying to compete with him. now as the season has progressed a bit and she's gotten the opportunities to show her skills, we're seeing a bit more of her personality shine through. i also think the both of them are meant to be med student archetypes - the overly ambitious gunner and the one who's currently in a rotation they have no interest in. i really love the effort this show puts into portraying such a wide range of characters!!

Some people also say that Joy is not a morning person, aka, she is so nonchalant/detached the first hours into the shift, but now as the day is progressing, she is become more high-energy and invested.

your discussion on al-hashimi and in tandem “unlikeable” women characters meant SOOO much to me because i am SO tired of people harping on female characters as “analysis” when they’re flawed like normal human people and act like it??? am i alone in seeing a character like that and wanting to know Why they’re that way instead of immediately writing them off?????

I feel like they are heeeeavily insinuating that Robby is planning on committing suicide. When he’s talking to Whitaker about house sitting he says something like “and you’ll have a sweet bachelor pad if I don’t come back” and then Whitaker looks confused but they get interrupted. Also him lying about wearing a helmet constantly

As far as doctors who end up with addiction issues, there are these 5 year programs specifically so they actually get help, and they get to keep their job, otherwise no one would ever admit to it and the problem would persist.

Keep in mind Robby is not just depressed but probably also burnt out, has been since last season. You're not seeing the real Robby, you're seeing a burnt out version of him and that's the only version we have seen these two seasons. He's probably not able to extend the empathy and energy that he used to have to his residents, patients and colleagues, and that's shameful and sort of the point of the Pitt - how the system squeezes everything out of these doctors and nurses and is not caring for them properly. Which is probably why Langdon is also triggering to Robby, cause Langdon has gotten help somehow, and Robby refuses to get any and is probably thinking of another way out instead. He does not want to have the mirror that is Langdon around, cause that's too confrontational.
So yeah, Al Hashimi is a way better mentor to all these people at this point in time, but maybe if we'd ever gotten a glimpse at the real Robby before the burnout, we'd see him be similar to her. He has turned into someone without empathy and energy, and you can tell from the way he dodges looking at everyone this season, especially when conversations get hard, that he's also full of shame and desperation.
(I speak as someone who has been through horrible burnout myself, burnout-you is not real-you, it's a survival-you that leaves you with a ton of shame about what you fail at and makes constant comparisons to how you were when you had more energy, it's a relentless critic and simultaneously you're not able to improve it because your energy is too low for that. When your battery is at 1%, you struggle to keep the lights on, and you can only focus on yourself, neglecting colleagues and friends along the way, even if you know (if you dare to reflect on it) that that's not who you truly are. But knowing what's wrong doesn't fix what's wrong and burnout is horrible to recover from.)

i feel like the robby hate is overblown. we know exactly what's going on with him. we were in his head all last season and now that we're not people are acting like he's just a shallow misanthropic asshole. it's been six years and tens months of stewing while also captaining the sinking ship that is The Pitt. this man is not okay and only abbot (and the audience) knows how deeply not okay he is. i'm giving all the characters grace until the last episode. no one guessed a waterslide collapse so who knows how things are gonna pan out in the back half of the season!
i also want kingdon to be platonic but more so mel can finally have a big brother figure looking out for her the way she looks out for becca.

I think Langdon was so tough on Santos because she knew about his addiction and was clocking him for it in season 1. I think she was the only one that noticed/cared that he was acting strange, so he lashed out at her, it didn't matter if she was doing the right or wrong thing. Ogilvie is definitely benefiting from white male privilege, and I think that's also why no one calls him out like they did to Santos in season 1.

Ogilvie reminds me of every crass/Priviliged med school kid who came from a medicine family
