I am quite surprised that there are not yet more electric outboard setups for the 5-6 meter planing boat segment. At least for people who need the boat for shorter trips or commutes. For longer range, the battery tech may still need a few years, but not more than that. The economics over 10-15 years should be in favour of electric already now.

I just 3D printed my own outboard motor for my inflatable dinghy - 4kW motor with a water cooled 7.5 kW VESC controller.<br>Cost about $400 plus my time to design, print and iterate. Add a few kWh of batteries and it'll do the entire length of Lake Balaton in a day without recharging.<br>One day, buyers will realize they're being massively overcharged for something really so simple.

I think the price point needs to come down for buyers to want to consider ev outboards. Then the next questions are longevity, reliability after say 6 months use. Are the given warranties honored ?
