  Since you’re on an acapella kick, go ahead and introduce yourself to Home Free and finish the trifecta of acapella royalty :) Pentatonix is the “pop group”, VoicePlay are the “theatre kids”, and Home Free are the “country boys”. The Butts Remix is a MUST if you go down the Home Free rabbit hole.

  It&apos;s always a blast to watch someone discover Voiceplay.<br>The producers of the Sing Off required them to add a female lead vocalist. &nbsp;In order to be on the show they had to comply. &nbsp;They wanted Rachel Potter (Moana) to join them, but she was already contractually obligated to another show. &nbsp;They brought in another artist instead. &nbsp;They have always been a five man group since 1997, straight out of high school.<br>The burly high tenor, Earl, was an original member, left for undisclosed personal reasons in 2020. &nbsp;The bald tenor, Eli (rhymes with jelly) joined them in 2010, shortly before they rebranded themselves as Voiceplay. &nbsp;J None, the rapper, was with them from 2018 to 2021 when he left to sing with the US Navy. &nbsp;He returns perodically as a featured artist. &nbsp;He was replaced with Cesar, the one with all the hair in Valhalla.<br>They used to spend most of their time on the road. &nbsp;Covid put the kibosh on that so they concentrated on upping their studio production. &nbsp;When the world opened again, they decided to stay home. &nbsp;Geoff, Layne (beatbox), and Eli are all married with children and found being home with family was better. &nbsp;They have done a few private corporate gigs and a huge two night concert with Chicago in November 2023.<br>They are totally independent, and do almost everything themselves. &nbsp;Arrangement production, artistic, editing, first mix... &nbsp;all of it. &nbsp;Check the credits on each one.<br>Try Hoist the Colours from Priates of the Caribbean 3 and The Way You Make Me Feel.<br>Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff&apos;s solo work.

  The information you read there in the beginning is at least ten years out of date. The “girl” in question had joined the group for a while when Voiceplay was doing the Sing Off competition, but she left sometime after. That’s why she didn’t show up in any of these videos, lol; these were made long after she left.<br><br>As far as I know, Voiceplay has never had a permanent female singer, although there are several friends of theirs who are recurring guests in their videos, and could technically be considered part of the unofficial Voiceplay family outside of the “core” members.

  Honey was only with them for the Singoff. Their current lineup is Geoff Castellucci (subterranean bass and arranger,) Layne Stein (beatboxer, baritone and arranger,) Eli Jacobson (tenor, Rock God--he did used to sing in a metal band--lighting and occasional arranger,) and Cesar De La Rosa (ridiculously versatile baritenor and the biggest sweetheart on this or any other planet.) Those are the guys in the Valhalla Calling video, where they were joined by former member and frequent returning guest J.None. (Fun fact; Valhalla Calling is a sequel to My Mother Told me and the four who were in both videos used the same makeup and largely the same costumes. Cesar, however, hadn&apos;t yet joined the group when they did MMTM; but he did wear Jose Rosario&apos;s cloak from that video in Valhalla Calling, and the two of them are old school chums!) When J.None is busy elsewhere, they fill that fifth slot with a rotation of other amazing guest artists.<br><br>I recommend you check out their covers of Nothing Else Matters, Hoist the Colours, Heavy is the Crown, Stand By Me, The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Party Of Your Lifetime--but that&apos;s just scratching the surface. Pick any video in their channel that looks interesting and you will not be disappointed.

  Im gonna leave a more detailed explanation of the Group since the Wiki Page you read is very bare-bones, outdated and a little bit inaccurate even.<br><br><br>VoicePlay is an Acappella Group that has been active since 1997, which makes them the oldest group out of the 3 Big Acappella bands (Pentatonix and Home Free are the other 2), although back then they used to be called 42Five.<br><br>The Group is currently composed of 4 members…<br><br>Geoff Castellucci (The Bass)<br>Layne Stein (The Beatboxer)<br>Eli Jacobson (The Rock Tenor/Bald Guy)<br>César De La Rosa (Baritenor/the guy with a big beard in Valhalla Calling)<br><br>The Group was founded by Geoff, Layne and Earl Elkins Jr. back when they were in Highschool, Earl is the big guy with the very high voice in the Moana Medley and the Oogie Boogie Song….. but unfortunatelly he left the group in 2020 for personal reasons.<br><br>Other notable members that have been in the Group are….<br><br>Mykal Kilgore, who was also a founding member and their original High Tenor, he left very early…. In 1999, to pursue a career in Musical Theater, but he actually recently came back a did some collaborations with VoicePlay.<br><br>Scott Porter, he is also considered a founding member of the Group and he was their original Beatboxer (Layne was originally the Baritone) but also left the group back in 2003 to pursue his own career as an actor.<br><br>J.None, he joined the group in 2018 and became their Baritone (you saw him in the Oogie Boogie Song, My Mother Told Me and Valhalla Calling), he left the group in 2021 because he joined the Navy… but he always comes back and collaborates with the group every time he’s on leave.<br><br><br>The thing you read in the Wiki Page about a female member named Honey Larochelle is only partially true…. You see…. VoicePlay has never had an official female member, Honey joined them temporarily because they needed a fifth member to compete in the Sing-off (and this was back in 2012-2013).<br><br><br>What sets VoicePlay apart from other Acappella groups like Pentatonix and Home Free…. Is that unlike those 2… VoicePlay is completely independent, they produce all of their music by themselves… and being independent is what allows them to cover about any song and any music genre they want (from Classicals like In The Hall of the Mountain King to Videogame Themes like Halo).<br><br>Another thing that sets them apart is the fact that… ever since Earl left the group in 2020… VoicePlay has decided to remain as a 4-member Group… and with each new cover they release they invite and colaborate with different singers they have made friends with (a lot of them from the Sing-off) to fill up the fifth spot in the arrangement, which gives their music a lot of freedom and versatility.<br><br><br>In Short…. You can never go wrong with VoicePlay, they have a little bit of everything…. Truly one of the most talented groups of the current times.

  Geoff uses a vocal technique called subharmonics. I won&apos;t go into a detailed explanation but it&apos;s a way of manipulating the vibrations of the vocal chords to achieve insanely deep notes with a clarity not present in &quot;fry&quot; or &quot;growl&quot; technique, which produces a more breathy, guttural sound. Subharmonics sounds like a war horn, growl sounds like fire-breathing, lol. Geoff can do pretty much all of it and you will hear him use varying techniques depending on the &quot;color&quot; he wants to the bass. He has an impressive chest range as it is, chest meaning being able to sing the note straight up without employing special techniques to reach it, but being able to employ all of these different techniques makes him supremely versatile.
