  the idea of asking for mainstream approval to wear smth in the form of "can we bring back ..." instead of just wearing or doing your makeup the way you want is so strange and surreal

  This is how i feel with anime. I used to get bullied so badly in school for liking it, but bc its “trendy” the same people like it now and bring toxicity into it.

  Thrifting too, it was seen as "poor people activity" but now that the influencers and "rich girlies" are thrifting, it's become a huge thing. And of course, you can no longer get good prices at thrift stores thanks to this. Ridiculous.

  I keep saying it: social media is a widespread extension of the high school popularity contest. It just keeps ppl stuck in this mindset of chasing trendy validation instead of living with authenticity & purpose.

  I was heavily bullied when when I was a kid for... Having a Personality. It was early 2k and we didn't have social media, but I was a girl who liked videogames, anime, scifi and fantasy; and didn't know what the difference was between a concealer and a base. It's a little jarring to see people jumping on my old hobbies because it's 'trendy' now, but I am grateful for having that formative experience, because it taught me that following the pack is NOT worth it. You CANNOT BUY membership into a group, be it It Girls, BossBabes, or Influencers. The moment trends change, alliances will change and you will be dumped. Trust me, it's very scary but it's better to be the one weirdo kid than to be living at the edge of a mental breakdown because you cannot get the latest pair of shoes that you will throw away in 6 months.

  Booktok is one of the biggest cases of this. You used to get BULLIED for liking to read for fun, as a kid. But because social media says it&apos;s cool, everyone is suddenly a book girlie and into this genre and that micro-trope . We went from &quot;reading is for nerds&quot; to &quot;hot girls read books&quot; in the blink of an eye. Sure, im glad people are reading more, and others are finding hobbies they love, but it shows you just how easily a person&apos;s decisions can be swayed based on a trend or celebrity endorsement. Be who you are, that&apos;s cool. <br><br>Social media apps should come with a content warning: &quot;Not everything you see or hear reflects real life. These are trends and opinions from others. Don&apos;t take it as gospel. Be yourself!&quot; Without it, mfs can&apos;t comprehend anything on their own.
