Tenochtitlan at its peak was larger, cleaner and more advanced then most European cities in the same era. The Spanish invaders confirmed it, as they couldn't believe what they were witnessing. Sadly their thirst for gold wouldn't allow them to coexist with such impressive and advanced culture and would follow to burn ages of knowledge scripts and destroy their temples to turn them into cathedrals and palaces. Tenochtitlan still lives in Mexico city, the culture and heritage never died.

About the worst thing you could do with that weapon is slam it into something like a stump,

The technique would have been to engage with this weapon against a human body, unsupported by something as sturdy as a tree.

If you want to immediately destroy your cutting edge, you would do what this guy did, by slamming it into something like a tree trunk.

Of course you're going to start losing your blades. It's going to render your weapon nothing more than a club.

A warrior armed with such a weapon would not want to start losing blades immediately upon beginning battle.

There was no shame in losing the ball game, the captain of the "winning team" had his head cut off, by the captain of the losing team. One goes to their death as a "God"! The winning team gets the glory!!! Our sports are for celebrity not service. The primal (primitive) peoples had it correct, we've got it wrong. There used to be routine regicide (killing the king, even if they were good. Look how rich our so-called public elected servants get! There's always too much focus on the technical aspects pf the culture in these docs, than the deep universal truths in these video's. That's why we believe that "myths" are falsehoods and not truths, regardless of their actuality.
