It was ironic that Sam Neill's last words in this film were 'I would like to have seen Montana' because just 3 years later his first scene in 'Jurassic Park' is in the Badlands of Montana, digging for fossils. R.I.P. Sam Neill.

You know the polar opposite submarine movie to “Hunt for Red October” is Kelsey Grammer’s “Down Periscope”.

18:00 the book says complications due to a surgery from a botched appendectomy by a drunk doctor and bad antibiotics, left her with perforated bowel, memory serving. Scott Glenn talks about spending time on an actual US submarine in preparation for his role as Captain Bart Mancuso. The captain of the boat instructed his crew to take Glenn's orders. The captain gave orders, and Glenn would repeat them, gaining experience giving actual orders in a command environment. 28:48 That is real. THRO is one of those rare instances where the movie is better than the book, some of the action sequences are separate events in the book.
