  Garp’s biggest mistake in my opinion was TELLING Ace who his FATHER was BEFORE he was emotionally mature enough to handle it.

  He was not confused at Marineford.<br>It was Luffy and Ace that didn&apos;t give him a choice.<br><br>If he helped Ace, Ace would have never felt like he himself would acomplish anything. He was shadowed by his father his whole life ... if he was shadowed by Garp as well ... he would rather die.<br><br>If he helped Luffy, he would have interfered with his dream as well.<br>That is why Luffy told him &quot;please, move aside&quot; ... Imagine you grandchild at it&apos;s harshest moments ... Telling you to move aside, you being able, but unpermitted to help him.<br>He was torn because the only way for him to support their dreams was to step aside or attack them.<br><br>He is the greatest guardian a person could have ...
