Just to clarify, the iX3 40 has the exact same Level 2+ system as the 50 xDrive. Both share the same Neue Klasse hardware. The Motorway Assistant (hands-free up to 80 mph and eye-activated lane change) is fully available on the 40, as long as it has the Driving Assistant Professional pack. The only differences between the 40 and 50 are power and battery size, whilst the tech is identical. Top video otherwise!

A brilliant review, I ordered the 40 sport pro as a company lease car. I could only get the 50 in the basic version due to the cost. Not many reviews on the 40, so really appreciate this appraisal. Looking forward to the Nov. delivery, just need a charger fitting now 🙂

Totally agree, get the 50. People rant about you dont need the big battery and the charging infrastructure is getting better, but that’s not the point. The point is with the 50 you can charge at home very low prices and not be ripped off by having to charge publicly at motorway services or charging stations. Having to use these takes away one of the major advantages of an EV the potential low running costs per mile.. I also agree it Futureproof it, battery technology is improving constantly and there will be several step changes in range and battery performance as we migrate towards solid state. Getting the biggest factory with the longest range now protects you as much as possible against severe depreciation when newer models hit the market with larger ranges and similar prices to the current offerings.. it also means you can buy the car and keep it for a long time and it’s not too out of date

The smooth brake system is because for the last second or so of braking it switches to the rear brakes which make it a much smoother stop

Just watched your video - excellent!!! Well presented and well worth watching. I have a fully loaded iX3 xDrive 50 and somehow got the cost to £74k. Whoops. Only had the car since August 15th and so far very impressed. What I didn't realise until I watched your video is mine is missing Level 2 Autonomous Driving Motorway Assist - which mine doesn't have. Apparently mine was built in June so missed the upgrade which I gather will be available via an ota update. It can't come soon enough as I do thousands of motorway miles. Subscribed.

Yes, the extra range of the 50 is definitely worth it.

Motorway assist pack is available on the 40. You have to pay, just like on the 50.

Anybody notice how harsh the ride is on 22’s ? I had one for a couple of hours . 40 on 22” wheels - really surprised at the harshness and jitters of the ride. I’ve had 3 series , 4 series , X3 , X6 in the past , so am used to BMWs , and was unpleasantly surprised by the ride of the ix3 40 with 22” wheels ? Anyone else notice this ?

Nice review, interesting to hear about x40 model. I’ve got the x50 and loving it so car. Often driving from Worcester to Hayle (cornwall) and the extra range and motorway assistant make it a super relaxing drive. I’m probably the odd out and really love the hud, at night on unfamiliar b-roads having the hud show upcoming corners and how sharp they are really takes the stress out of driving.

Wish the panoramic vision had more widgets, e.g name of song currently playing, weather at destination etc.

Wife learnt the hard way that when parking at car parks the parking sensors don’t always engage.
