  This feels like Gaster explaining his own program and his thought process behind making it but trying not to blow his cover. Even if it's technically outdated because of Chapter 5 this is one of the best theories I've ever seen

  (Typing this while watching, so I’m sorry if you go over this in the video).<br><br>Is it possible that this “Protorune”, this original story Toby had in mind that may have had more normalized violence, DID happen. Like in Lore. Canonically in the Deltarune we have. Like this all played out before in some way or another, the “original game”, and this new version with the opportunity to exercise mercy is overwriting it.<br><br>Ralsei in CH4 talks about how he obscured a bit of the prophecy when he told them because he wanted to do something different, and hoped that if they were just “kind” enough then things would play out differently.<br><br>And that the reason the Mercy mechanic feels so vestigial is because it’s literally a new concept inserted into this story in an effort to alter its outcome.<br><br>To his credit, it is kind of working! Tenna is alive due to the mercy mechanic, and otherwise there is more hope and optimism among the darkners, it’s not nothing! It just hasn’t changed the prophecy, yet.

  Even if not everything here survived Chapter 5,<br>Bangin&apos; sermon, my man. Even if some things aren&apos;t exactly 100% correct, still, very very fun things to think about.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbLhwmLP9w8&amp;t=2940">49:00</a> I have noticed that Kris&apos; attitude towards us as the game progresses in a Mercy route to become more condescending.<br>They seem to know the prophecy (at least in part) and if they can see it doesn&apos;t change despite being merciful, I think it&apos;s fair for them as an ostracized teenager to grow cynical to our kindness towards objects. Especially since, to them, there is a clear difference towards Darkners and Lightners. But to us, the difference is insubsistantial and we are often more attached to Darkners as we spend very little time with most Lightners.<br><br>In contrast, in the Weird route, we treat them like just as much of an object as they see Darkners and they instead grow to resent then fear us as we start showing them that our i difference towards Darkners applies to them and their friends as well.

  I have one disagreement with this video. I think kris was the knight in protorune and kris and dess switched places, ending up being some of the only entities to remember protorune.
