This is really important and interesting to me. I am the older, and higher earning spouse and we have a 12-year age difference. Our plan is that I would delay collecting until 70 so we built a bridge for the 3 and 1/2 years after I retire. Then, it dawned on us that the whole plan hinged on me surviving that long, and well beyond that. In the spirit of building a back-up plan we tore into all these rules and modeled different decisions at different times. It all became quite gnarly. Aside from the need for possible backup income, we discovered two potential pitfalls. One, would be accidentally remarrying before age 60. Another would be assuming ownership of our retirement accounts before 59 and a half, which would make them an accessible. And then not assuming ownership before turning 61 which would require RMDs on my schedule rather than hers. Create video! Thanks Holy!

$255 is a joke, epitomizing how our federal government is utterly idiotic.

Very helpful!! One point not often mentioned. If the passing spouse was under 62 but already on SS disability (such as for terminal illness), then the PIA is the amount of the SS Disability payment, not the FRA amount.

When you did the comparison and showed both spouses getting the same at amount. It would have been good to show and example if they waited a year were the first would get more but the second would get the exact same amount.
