  Pro tip, after cleaning I turn the oven on to the highest temp for 30 mins or so. Burns off any remnant smells, because I don't want that newly cleaned smell when I cook something for the first time after cleaning.

  The only other thing I found that helps with the racks is to line the bathtub bottom with old towels to protect the tub being scratched by the racks and creating a dirty tub to clean. I use powdered dishwashing detergent, fill the tub with the hottest faucet water and let stand overnight. It is crazy how easily burned on yuk just floats off with a little nudge. Thanks for inspiring me to clean my oven that is well overdue for cleaning.

  Last time I cleaned my oven, I put my racks in a garbage bag outside and sprayed them with oven cleaner.  Then closed the bag.  After the grease started to dissolve, I took them out and rinsed them with a hose.  Worked great!

  I've added a first step. Store all racks but the one you typically use, because they're tedious to clean and leaving them in the oven means they all get spattered. If you need a second rack (rarely) you can always retrieve one.

You’re exactly right that the self clean function is a NO NO!! Not only does it not actually clean, but it will burn electronics or smoke any particles left in oven. The biggest thing though that people may not be aware of is that it will LOCK your oven door until it completes the cycle on most models because the heat gets so high. I have been to about 3 of these calls in my career. No serious fires but it ruined the ovens.

  We learned how to clean an entire oven this way in grade eight home ec. &nbsp;In the 1970&apos;s! &nbsp; I always put a layer of tin foil on the bottom of my &nbsp;oven under the element...then I can change it periodically &nbsp;with no fuss. Cuts the cleaning time in half!<br>Canada 🇨🇦

  Also a tip from me! I just cleaned my oven the day before watching this video! Put some water in a tray , turn on the oven and create moisture in the oven to help loosen up the grime. you can add baking soda or vinegar to that water as well. &nbsp;Cleaning time halves. it was so easy to clean afterwards.
