Ms. Bain has quite a sexy strut on her as she mounts the stage to receive her 3rd Emmy. I LOVE her flip hairdo. From her words, this must have been during the time she and her husband had just left MI due to what was said a salary dispute. I confess I felt the show went downhill after they left because they BOTH were absolutely WONDERFUL as Spies Cinnanon Carter/Rollin Hand and they made a handsome couple in real life.

this is long folks so apologies in advance

Barbara Bain's departure from M:I had more to do with her loyalty to Martin Landau (who was her husband at the time) and less to do with her salary.

Unlike Landau (who had a season to season deal with the show), Bain signed a five year contract to do the series. Upon leaving at the end of the show's third season, Paramount slapped the actress with a lawsuit when she refused to come back.

As a result, the studio successfully prevented her from taking on other roles for two years until the terms of her contract came to end in 1971 when at that time she was able to resume working.

The studio meanwhile had no legal recourse on Landau hence why he wasn't taken to court. He was wanting more money than what Paramount were willing to give him.

It would have also meant that if they gave into this request, then they would have to have given Peter Graves the same amount as well since he was the star of the show not to mention the actor had a "favored nations" clause in his contract preventing anyone else from making more than him.

The end result was disastrous all round for everyone concern. Landau and Bain were labelled as "difficult and greedy" and their careers were impacted significantly. Landau would ultimately stage a successful comeback much later on (winning an Oscar in 1995) but Bain's career never enjoyed the same level of success despite continued roles in various different projects.

As for the show itself, it suffered a huge drop in ratings (from 11th place in 1969 to 53rd place a year later in 1970). The show would rebound back and gain some momentum ratings wise and produce a number of solid episodes for the remaining four years it was on the air but it was never quite the same afterwards......

It's interesting to see a clip from such an old Emmy ceremony. I didn't even recognize Bill Cosby at first.

kamilixa
yes your right, the problem is to get there you have to go through a lot of pain, watching this to me it looks like barbra wants to take the bite into some thing or some one as she goes to the stage its a lesson every things heavenly in holly wood but what we dont see past our tv screens in our living rooms might be something else entirely
