I weighed 422lbs. Then Jesus told me how to eat and fast. Now I've lost 250lbs, reversed diabetes, overcome drug and alcohol addiction, and a whole list of other stuff. The physical transformation is crazy, but the spiritual transformation that led to that physical stuff is what the fasting and all is really about.

My belly was my god. I'd eat when bored, happy, sad. Didn't give a damn if I had nothing in savings. I couldn't help myself no matter how much I knew better. Food can quite literally be a drug. We self medicate with it.
Thank you Lord for helping me seek You instead. Thank you for teaching me discipline and self control.

The food never tastes as good as I imagined it would. The relief never lasts as long as I hoped it would. The shame and regret is always worse than the pain that triggered the binge.

I just got off of a 3 day fast, just drank water with electrolytes. First days long fast ever! The biggest takeaway I had was how I have been loving food more than I love God. I couldnt stop thinking about it during my fast. I was looking forward to eating again. Those were 3 very long days. I thought man..... I wish I could love God as much as I love and think about food. It hurt my physical flesh but it felt good to crucify my flesh for the glory of God. I needed that correction. Not to mention I feel better than I have in years! All because I said no to my fleshly desires.

Gluttony isn’t only about food. Traditionally it’s associated with overeating, but the broader idea is overindulgence and taking more than you reasonably need. For example, someone could waste water by taking extremely long showers, waste money on unnecessary excess, or consume resources without much thought or gratitude. The issue isn’t just food, it’s when consumption and comfort become excessive and self-control gets pushed aside.

When I was 17, I broke my jaw in two places. I had to drink my food through a straw for 7 weeks. I lost almost 30 lbs. You could see my ribs because I had lost so much weight. My faith grew so much during that time. One of the things I learned was the difference between hunger and starvation. When you're hungry, you feel the need to eat. When you're starving, you no longer feel the need to eat. It's good to hunger and thirst for righteousness. However, most Christians today are starving in their relationship with God.

What God taught me:

I eat what is a fair amount of something—-and if I want more but know I shouldn’t have it, I dedicate that food or food category to God as a fast for the rest of the day. He always helps me.
