What a pleasant and insightful conversation. Rachel Martin - you have created such an excellent platform for discovering the "who" your guests are. You have such an inviting and curious sense about you - which clearly demonstrates your capacity to open those you encounter. I did not know much about Melinda - other than just a few surface details from her visible past (i.e. the foundation). She is utterly delightful, grounded, and caring. I sensed the pain, but also the power in her manner and in her speech - I guess that is how all of us must learn to live when we survive into our latter years. I am glad that you only spent a brief and respectful amount of time on her "darker" circumstances - allowing her to move on, allowed us to see more of who she was. We are more than one facet - and she is a kaleidoscope of richness. Thank you for having her, for engaging in this conversation, and for creating a program that makes life a little better .... a little brighter. Beautiful!

Melinda doesn’t have to answer questions that are clearly Bill’s to answer.

I have loved almost every episode. In none of them do I recall Martin REPEATEDLY bringing up what is clearly a painful subject. The only information any of us have thus far is that Melinda was UNAWARE of what was happening, to the point of possibly being medicated without her knowledge. STOP demanding women answer for the poor actions of men.

I am struck with Melinda's explanation of knots in life as a place to grow... This is my experience as well... Thank you for this great encounter of two wonderful women. ❤

Rachel, I appreciate that you asked her to comment and that you even pressed her a bit beyond her comfort zone, but that you did so with calm and a kind of holding space for her. It would seem that she is trying her best to do good in the world and hold relationships with her children in spite of her personal pain and embarrassment.

I continue to be deeply moved by every episode you bring. We all have memories, insights and beliefs, and in the sharing, we reclaim our humanity, hope and goodness, flaws and all.

Walks in nature help me with despair. And this show helps too! So thank you to you and your guests. It is interesting to see how accomplished people answer this question. I like Zadie’s Smith response. A nice cold martini at times does help!
