I need help with the "sideways" compliments. Something like, "you look pretty today" but with a voice inflection of puzzlement. Or, "that's a lovely dress, where'd you get it" but with incredulity that I owned such a dress. Feels like others want to make sure I NEVER reach my full potential. No one in my life receives trust or respect from me without hard earning it now. One must protect their own peace.
