I found the dark side of Zanzibar (outside the resorts) nobody talks about!

I am from Zanzibar, and I thank you for showing what many visitors don’t see. Our islands are very beautiful, with amazing beaches and culture, but life is not always easy for the people who live here. Many locals work hard every day, but the money from tourism does not always reach us or our families. Some communities still struggle with basic needs like clean water, good schools, and jobs. I hope tourists learn more about us and help support local people when they visit by choosing local guides, buying from small shops, and respecting our culture. Thank you for sharing the truth about our home. (Zanturtle Tours Team)

Same in Diani, Maldives, Mauritius, Haiti, Jamaica... Resort life is not representative of how the average person there lives

I'm a Zanzibari. Even New York and Paris have places that are of low income people or slams.

Every country has a dark side. This is not only about Zanzibar. Also, social media is a delusion.

No guys, let's be truthful and stop defending the indefensible in the comments. The government needs to take care of basic infrastructure like good roads, accessible and reliable electricity, strong telecommunications etc. The tourism industry must be legislated to benefit the locals first, allowing for socio-economic improvements. We have to do better as Africans.

People need to learn how to enjoy the adventure. Thoses dusts and potholes are part of the adventure.

I was just in Zanzibar for 5 nights. We spent 3 nights at a beach resort and 2 nights in Stone Town. There is nothing misleading about the island. If anyone does even 15 minutes of research before going there, they would know exactly what they are getting. We loved our stay at both locations there. It is no different than going to most of Caribbean islands, most of central America, many parts of Asia and plenty of other places in the world. We loved our stay. Anyone who says they were "catfished" simply didn't do any research. Stone Town was great and we felt completely safe there, even walking around in the evening. Restaurants were great as well. Just do some research and you will know exactly what you're getting yourself into.

This is the difference between Economic Growth and Economic Development. The Economy is growing but not developing.
