I fired my advisor when he had me in funds over 1% and way down and I was paying him 1%. I do it myself now. Have learned a lot on YouTube over the last year.

Love the five question Fridays: a highlight of my week. I'll throw in a thumbs up for the newsletter as well.<br>Isn't a bond tent essentially a bucket strategy?

I am 10 years from retirement and new to figuring out this investing thing! I must say i have learned so much in a short period of time, thanks to YouTube and AI, that i already feel confident in my future. I had been wondering about a financial advisor, and what i have heard and read has confirmed my thoughts. I DO like the option of a once in a while let a person look over things to confirm what I see. Thank you Rob and other commentors, for your financial insight!!

The bond tent sounds similar to the "rising equity glide path" that Pfau mentions

Hi Rob in your yesterday's newsletter you take aim at Die with Zero, suggesting it's "one of the worst personal finance books" you've read. Given it has somehow become the defacto go-to resource for the FIRE movement and many would-be retirees, would love to hear more from you on this/your opinion, perhaps in your live show?

One option for the first question about concerns of prolong bear market at the early years in retirement - I would be investing conservatively at the start of retirement, like 40% stocks, 20% bond fund like BND, and 40% individual bond 10-year ladders (4% matures in year 1, another 4% in year 2, etc). This way, the first 10 years his expense will be guaranteed to be funded. If stocks sink during the first 10 years, don’t sell any stocks. If stocks rise in those 10 years, let the asset allocation drifts towards more aggresive and follow a reverse guide-path until you reach back to 60/40 or even 70/30, the original allocation he felt comfortable with at age 48. This rise in stock allocation will address the concern of growing and beating inflation over time.
