I'd like to switch places with you, Dan, and locations, and age. I'm a fossil and my knees wouldn't allow me to do what you did so enjoy your youth, enjoy where you are located and enjoy where you are in life. Thanks for posting!

Amazing hike!!! I appreciate you mentioning letting people know your route and itinerary, it so important and so many people don't do it. My friend was stuck on Mt. Rainier for 2 nights in a snowstorm and no one knew she went, and no one was looking for her. She was going up on a quick climb, checked in with the rangers, but they didn't have her sign in because she was going to be below a certain altitude. Luckily she had the right equipment, minus a stove, and enough food to keep her going. She had gotten a shovel for Christmas and had brought it with her, which is what saved her.

This was an awesome hike. I wish I was there as well.
Like others have said, I so appreciate you pointing out locations and your advice on letting others know your location. Very important.
I’ve been to Velma lakes, but not to Dicks.
My old bones might not let me do that particular hike, but I so appreciate you taking us along.
You are definitely younger and stronger.
Looks like you had an awesome weather day.
I keep hearing thunder rolling from below here.
Peace be with you and safe travel always.
Alicia

You live in an amazingly lovely place. Spent 15 years in the 90’s in Cali, now live in Arizona. Sometimes regret leaving. Did much mountaineering and hiking, loved every minute. Nature is so very healing, especially when you lose a beloved doggie. Stay healthy and safe🏜️

Thanks again for taking us along. I appreciate when you take the time to point out the lakes and peaks by name. In my years I spent a lot of time in Desolation Valley. I remember Dick's Lake but never made it to Dick's Peak. I remember Fontenelle but I don't remember how I got there. My favorite entry was up Horsetail Falls. It is steep but it's the quickest way in. I even skied in there twice to Pyramid Peak. You didn't mention a log on Dick's Peak. My first time up Pyramid there was nothing more than a film canister. Maybe they're not using logs on peaks anymore.

I love desolation wilderness probably more than any other area.
So peaceful and left untouched.
I too deal with grieving my dead dogs by hiking. Miss them dearly but I knew they don’t last long when I got them.
Thanks for your videos

Nice video! I love Dicks Peak. We hiked it a month ago, on 6/29. There were still plenty of snowdrifts as we headed up to Dicks Pass. When we got to Dicks Pass, the route up to the peak looked kind of intimidating, but once you actually get to that steep, loose chute, it really wasn't too bad at all. Maybe just a few class 3 moves, but mostly class 2.

On Strava, I recorded 15.4 miles and 4,400' of gain, round trip.

I hope to climb all of the highest peaks in Desolation Wilderness. Next up will probably be Mt. Price and Mt. Agassiz in a day. That might be longer than the Dicks Peak hike.
