In the mid-70s I was working at a machine shop in Compton California. The owner contracted with a company to replace the fluorescent lights in the facility. Then they came out to install the lights they arrived in a 1976 Cadillac station wagon. I owned a 67 Deville at the time so of course I was very interested in it. I questioned the contractor about the choice of using a custom Caddy wagon as a delivery vehicle, and his reply was priceless. "....it's leased and the payments are only $100 more per month than a regular wagon. You're asking me about it and now you'll always remember my company". <br>He was right but I did forget the company name but I'll always remember the car.馃槂

Old school Caddy hearses look both cool and scary at the same time.

That Dean Martin piece had to be an absolute tire roaster. Bet every 3 months it needed new tires.

I鈥檓 an old car dude and I don鈥檛 think I ever saw one of these. As a side note, seeing that Traditional Coachwork鈥檚 first conversion was done for Evel Kneivel, I must share my Evel story. I鈥檓 a native of Tucson Arizona and when I was a preteen in the mid sixties a local Dodge dealer had gotten him to come to do a sanctioned exhibition at Tucson Dragway. Well, Tucson was still a little Wild West back then so on a Sunday morning before the drags they closed down part of east Speedway Blvd somewhere between Craycroft and Wilmot Rds for those who know Tucson. They parked 13 large school buses side by side and that was Evel鈥檚 target. He warmed up racing up and down Speedway judging his speed and the ramps. He took one more lap pulling a wheelie at what seemed an impossible speed for his Harley. Then he made the run and it was a thing of beauty. I鈥檓 70 years old, but I鈥檒l never forget. Loved the video. 馃憤馃徏馃憤馃徏

The Castilian looks sharp without the luggage rack.

In the 1960s and 70's lots of Caddys were converted to ambulances and hearses - sometimes the same vehicle was used for both.

Family mortuary had both a 77 Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse and Limousine. I had to wash those suckers weekly. Took the Limo to junior prom. Still luxury in the late 90s.

Many 1970s cars still had the wonderful handling of rear wheel drive.

Cadillac made a commercial chassis for the hearse and limousine coach builders! They provided everything up to the windshield and the rear fenders.

I"m 54, and I remember my neighbors had an ambulance service and used Cadillac ambulances til 80s. As I recall, Cadillac's were preferred due to their suspension and ride wouldn't cause more injuries and allowed the EMT to work on the patient.
