He was so aware of this life, truly unfiltered raw truth and it goes to show when you speak the truth the world calls you " negative" or a " pessimist".

Am very grateful for the existence of this channel! ❤

I listen to many of your videos at work where there's some amount of constant noise in the background - but your clear audio and diction stand out even among all that. (As opposed to someone like essentialsalts, whose audio requires headphones).

This video is a narration of Arthur Schopenhauer’s Counsels and Maxims, which serves as a philosophical guide to the wise conduct of life. Schopenhauer explicitly states that he does not aim for a complete or systematic manual, but rather shares his personal, insightful thoughts on how to navigate existence.

Key philosophical themes covered include:

The Negative Character of Happiness (0:35 - 7:11): Schopenhauer argues that "freedom from pain"—rather than the pursuit of positive pleasure—should be the primary aim of a wise person. He posits that pleasure is merely the negation of pain, and that life is best measured by the evils one has avoided.
Self-Sufficiency and Inner Life (46:17 - 47:23): He emphasizes that the chief qualification for happiness is being self-sufficient, as it is difficult to find happiness within and "impossible to find it elsewhere."
The Necessity of Self-Control (1:42:41 - 1:44:03): To protect oneself from external compulsion and the inevitable misfortunes of life, the individual must practice self-control and moderate their wishes, desires, and anger.
Managing Time and Perspective (1:33:24 - 1:34:57): The author advises against serious meditation at night, suggesting the morning is the "youth of the day" and the proper time for intellectual and physical effort.
The Influence of Environment and Society (17:40 - 21:09): Schopenhauer reflects on the hollowness of social appearances and suggests that truly good company is inherently small and rare, often found only by chance rather than at brilliant festivals or public gatherings.

Throughout the text, Schopenhauer encourages readers to approach life with a clear understanding of their own nature (know thyself) and to remain wary of being misled by the "phantoms of the imagination" or the fleeting impressions of the moment.
