  I have a reverse of &quot;don&apos;t get in the car&quot; moment.<br><br>My parents picked up a guy who was out of gas, and he was really friendly. They get back to his truck, and it&apos;s swarming with cops. The dude had a woman tied up in the back of his truck. My parents stopped helping people on the side of the road.

  To answer your question - yes, a Dishonorable Discharge is almost the equivalent to having a felony conviction on your record, and will follow you around. Unlike a felony conviction, though, it actually EXCLUDES you from being able to apply for any jobs with companies that affiliated with the US Government. It&apos;s the worst type of discharge. It can only be handed down to a military member by a general court-martial: dishonorable discharges are rendered by conviction from a general court-martial for exceptionally serious offenses (e.g., treason, espionage, desertion, sexual assault, or murder)

  I was 7 or 8 years old, walking home alone from Sunday school because it was the 1960s and that&apos;s what you did. Some guy pulled up in a car and asked if I&apos;d like a ride. Remembering my mom&apos;s admonitions about talking to strangers, plus the fact I was just a few blocks away from home, I said &quot;No, thank you&quot; and kept walking. The guy drove off.<br><br>That was over 60 years ago. To this day, I wonder what would have happened if I&apos;d taken that ride. And I shiver.
