  An easier way to remember the pedal thread direction is to simply turn the pedal the same direction as the tire when moving forward to tighten it.  Turn the pedal the way the tire turns when going backward to remove it.  This works from any side or bike orientation on either pedal.

  In the 80s, I had to learn this stuff by getting a subscription to Mountain Bike Action and reading every issue cover to cover.  Now there are amazing YouTube hosts like Seth.

  Coming from a bike mechanic; you are probably one of the best bike mechanics I know! This is the kind of content we need to make cycling more accessible. To think that the bicycle was at the cutting edge of technology 100 years ago and lead to the invention of the airplane and cars, but now most people -in American just take them for granted and see them as children&apos;s toys or a symbol of communism. <br><br>How many bikes get thrown away because the owner can&apos;t do minor repairs to keep them rolling? Bike shops are guilty of this horrible practice too if a used bike isn&apos;t profitable enough. I don&apos;t think this is ever acceptable. Its a bicycle - not an Audi.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ityKI9CLvJw&amp;t=550">9:10</a> A much better way to explain this is that pedals always turn toward the front of the bike to tighten and turn away from the bike to loosen. This way you don&apos;t have to worry about orientation.

  Doddy from GMBN explained pedal direction the best. Always remove each pedal by turning toward the back of the bike if you’re looking down at the bike.

  Grease peddles before putting them on. Steel peddle shafts create electrolysis when mated with alloy crank arms. This makes removal a very hard chore. A little grease - removal is easy.
