As time has gone by and the game has been released on different consoles with different controls, some of the dialogue has had to be re-recorded and the voice actor for the colonel is 2 decades older.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itpkjwSONBA&amp;t=3680">1:01:20</a> The reason why the Colonel&apos;s voice sounds so different is because they had to re-record the Swimming Controls voice lines almost a decade later. The game originally came out in 2002 on PS2, so when they re-released the game in 2011 on Xbox 360 and PS3, they couldn&apos;t just keep the voicelines about the PS2 controls. The voice actor aged, and the recording setup was probably very different as well.

When MGS2 was first promoted, all of the content shown depicted Snake as the player character, including scenes on the Shell. People were upset about the rug-pull, but others had taken to appreciating the &apos;ludonarrative resonance&apos; behind it. Raiden wants to be like Snake, while being controlled by many players who also wanted to be Snake.<br><br><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itpkjwSONBA&amp;t=3710">1:01:50</a> You are right in that the Colonels voice sounded different in places. In the original release these lines were written and voiced with only the Playstation 2 controller in mind, and it transitioned smoothly. So every reference to Platation-specific controller inputs ended up getting redubbed to more generic descriptors. For example &apos;Circle&apos; got redubbed with &apos;the punch button&apos; for releases on other platforms that didn&apos;t require a Playstation controller.<br><br><br><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itpkjwSONBA&amp;t=4831">1:20:31</a> Before starting MGS2 you are given a quick questionnaire. If you answer that you never played the first game you would skip the entire Tanker chapter and begin as Raiden on the Shell. So when Snake and Otacon retell the events of what happened on the Tanker, it is 100% new information for some players. It was a unique way of addressing the fact that Snake had already won the trust of some players and not others.<br><br>Not going to say much about later released MGS games, but I will suggest to also make a sidenote about MGS Peace Walker. As a PSP game it is lower budget but it is still Kojima written/directed and considered to be just as crucial lorewise as the numbered games. That might be worth exploring right before or after MGS4. I think after.<br><br>And when you watch the last part of MGS2 just remember, this game was released in 2001...

  Yes, Escape From New York (the film) featured Kurt Russel as Snake Pliskin (yes, the inspiration for Solid Snake&apos;s name, as well as Pliskin&apos;s)

  Information control is why some characters say &quot;La-li-lu-le-lo.&quot; It is the nanomachines in their bodies preventing them from talking about the Patriots, causing momentary aphasia. The subject doesn&apos;t even realize what they said was nonsense or alternatively the listener hears the word correctly, but their brain jumbles it.
