when eating filipino food you should ask the servers how to eat the dish. For example the kare kare dish you got it taste a little bit bland but if you put a little bit of shrimp paste it would taste really good. Usually filipino dish in restaurants are served a little bland because they expect people to make customized dip to suit their taste to go along with the dish, thats why you see alot of condiments on the table. Also almost all filipino food need to be eaten with rice heck we even do lomi(noodles) with rice.

Most Filipinos mix the sauce of whatever stew to flavour their rice. A lot of Filipino dishes comes with condiments for the "meat" or fish, like a mix of 2 or more of the most common: calamansi/lime, fish sauce, soy sauce, chili/chili oil, vinegar. You can google which condiments are used for which particular dish.

I'd be careful of those cats. Anti-rabies vacs will cost you. Some cats can give you skin diseases.

You should bring a Filipino friend so he/she could show you how to eat Filipino food... That way you will get the better experience and get to know how we Filipino enjoy those dishes...

Next time just ask the server how you should eat filipino food especially the kare kare. You are supposed to have it with shrimp paste for that umami taste but a lot of people make mistake by adding too much which will make very salty

Almost all Filipino dishes are eaten combine with rice to offset the saltiness or sweetness or the food. On top of this we usually have dipping sauce for the dishes for personal preference of taste buds
