One thing I've learned is that when you see a storm off in the distance in the desert, you can almost always expect a gust of wind and wall of dust before it come your way, This is called an outflow boundary. Its what occurs when the rain cools the hot air in the desert and create a wall that flows out from the storm center. We get them all the time in Arizona and the wind and dust storm they create is called a Haboob.
