James and his father both officers in the British defence forces, the line "I'm not your son, you're not my father we're just two grown men saying goodbye" is what they would say to each other when they were deployed. James father had stage 4 kidney failure and there wasn't any good matches. James released this song and a distant relative saw it came forward and was a match. I forgot to mention that James father had donated a kidney years earlier so only had one functioning kidney, anyway transplant went through and he is now still with us and relatively healthy.

My dad died Sunday. He was 98, a WW2 vet. We’ve been taking care of him at home.
Was with him as he died, thankfully home hospice had provided us with medications so I believe he felt no pain. He’s with my mom now, who I also cared for at home til she passed.
This song hits hard. I did fold his clothes on the chair, I did tell him not to be scared. I believe I made him proud.

The girl that never was ❤ written by James after the loss of his daughter is extremely sad but beautifully written and sung by James. James said he wrote this for his therapy! It is worth listening to, it’s very cathartic but also lovely😢 🤩🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

James Blunt's father was dying of complete kidney failure. There were preparing for the end, which is when he wrote this song. A family member ended up being a match, and he received a kidney transplant, which is why he lived.

Real men, cry and it’s beautiful to see when a man is emotional and can express emotions
