I'm an Iowa fan living outside of Iowa. To tell you hiw much the rivalry means, I was wearing my Hawkeyes hoodie outside a shopping mall in Bozeman, MT, when an Iowa St fan pulled up on me rolled down his window and booed me 😂.

The rivalry doesn't matter, especially last weekend when one of our own hawkeye marching band members passed from heat stroke and cardiac arrest. Derek Phillips. The half-time this week was dedicated to Derek. Even some other marching bands have gold and black ribbons and pins that say "DIFD." Do it for Derek. 🖤💛❤️💛🖤

As a Cyclone, we thought it was OK to let Iowa win once every 1827 days.

I'd say Iowa State game is Iowa's biggest rivalry game. But the Iowa Hawkeye vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers game where they play for the Floyd of Rosedale trophy, then Iowa vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers game is a big rivalry game.

 Couple things to understand:
1. Iowa is a super rarity when it comes to coaching. We’ve had two coaches since 1978. Fry went from 78 to 98. Kirk ferentz has been the coach since 1999. Is the winningest coach of all time in the big ten. This is an absolute rarity in the sport and will never happen again

2. You know a ton of Iowa state fans just by living in the state. Friends, family, coworkers. And you talk shit all year. Whenever state wins it’s so insufferable. Probably vice versa too. That’s partially why it means so much

3. Iowa states old coach just left and their new coach brought in a ton of players. Not sure how good they are yet.

4. This years game is DISGUSTING

5. FUCK NO I DONT WANT STATE TO EVER BEAT IOWA. Having Iowa state be decent means they more likely to take Iowan recruits from Iowa. Low pop state, need little brother to be shit so we get all the good ones

You were right that you would be wrong: The University of Iowa is the University of Iowa and always has been; it is Iowa State University -- aka "Moo U" -- that started out as the "Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm." The U of I was founded within weeks of Iowa being admitted to the Union. Iowa, as you probably have learned by now, is "the Hawkeye State."
