  My grandpa, a history buff, often talked about how the Bowie knife was a hunter&apos;s best friend. It makes me wish I could&apos;ve seen it used as a multi-purpose tool firsthand, embodying the spirit of the frontier.

  These &nbsp;arms all have been well-known to most fans of the Civil War and Old west, none &nbsp;been &quot;Forgotten&quot;. I&apos;ve known of them since 1959-1962, ages 12-14 !

  The double-barrel shotgun, limited to two shots, was feared at close range because each blast was a &quot;genuine nightmare.&quot; That sheer stopping power made it the ultimate equalizer in confined spaces.

  My dad used to take me to old gun shows when I was a kid, and we saw a real Sharps Model 1874 once. He said it was the most honest rifle ever made.

  I can&apos;t remember the 1st time I saw any of these guns in movies and museums. I grew up in Colorado working on relative&apos;s ranches, and was exposed to firearms and taught about them from very young. Took a huge interest in guns of the old west at about 14 yrs old. When I was 16 I bought an 1860 .44 caliber Griswold &amp; Gunnison (reb) Army revolver that I have to this day. It was like new when I bought it but had beautiful apple wood grips. I have carried it as a professional trapper/tracker for 50+ years and it has killed more rabbits, coyote, and bobcat than the rest of my arms put together. (I have even taken a handful of deer, poached for food when trapping in the high country). My main elk rifle for years was my Navy Arms Remington rolling block .50/140 Sharps. I owned the rifle for nearly 2 years before I acquired everything I needed to manufacture cartridges for it (because they were unavailable). I&apos;ve always loved that rifle! I hard cast bullets for it, then after sizing the bore, size them to .509&quot;. Then I picked up the equation for paper patching from an old Elmer Kieth manual that my father had. Ultimately, the most accurate load for out to 1,200 yard that I worked up is 110 grains of FFFg black powder, a magnum large rifle primer, card wad, grease - &nbsp;(half n half beeswax/buffalo suet) wad, pushing a 753 grain paper patched lead bullet. Recoil was approximately 73½ foot pounds though. But if somebody could take it (I could!) it&apos;s a heck of a gun! Puts a bull elk right down with a &quot; boiler room&quot; shot out to very long range! <br>I have several more old west guns, but not enough room to write about em all. 👍🏻❤️🙏🏻†<br>🪶

  BRB tearing up. 😭 My grandpa, the O.G., used to talk about how simple life was back then, and how they had to make everything count. He always mentioned &apos;slapping some gravy on a biscuit&apos;—said it was the only way to get some fat and salt when things were tight. Seeing that Perpetual Soup pot just confirms it. They were built different. No cap, that generation was legit. Gotta call him up now. ❤️<br>Drop more of this Wild West content🎉🎉🎉🎉

  The 1873 Colt revolver was known as the Colt Single Action Army revolver. &nbsp;It did not get the name &quot;Peace Keeper&quot; until the barrel was shortened and then sold on the civilian market
