Great video 👍 Suggestion: the camera should not follow through on the ball but keep on Mike so we can see how he finishes his shot. In teaching shooting, it's less important of the ball goes in or not, it's about the technique.

Elbow to the rim is such a good cue

I like your “move elbow to the rim.” It produces the proper mechanics that end with the ball in the basket, just as you want.

Thank you, I am 64 love playing ball I had 5 knee surgeries quadriceps rupture, patella femoral rupture comminuted patella fracture removal of hardware and reinfection. Great PT and family work ethic I am back on the court with the 30-50 year olds. Stamina is back but my shot is HORRIBLE lol
Really am grateful for your advice. Very easy to understand. Thank you

Great video - this makes a bunch of sense thanks!

If I may, one point of criticism i'd like to pass along would be that the camera man should keep the shot on you for the follow through (its a video about shooting form) rather than follow the ball to the net that would be nice

I struggled with this very all day today and didn’t know what the issue was until seeing you explain it now it make perfect sense. Everything else about my mechanics were spot on but wondered why my arc was inconsistent. Thank you very much!

I’ve been struggling with this my whole career and even after following your instructions, it didn’t make sense while shooting from deep didn’t work this specifically made it all understandable. I’m also a trainer so I’m constantly refining my technique for my own shot as well as my students.

Can you do a video on where set point should be?

The best shooters on the planet "shorten" their shot the further they go from the basket, like Curry, Lillard, Young. Because of the leverage. Close to the basket you can be out of balance, with the ball really high above the head shooting over two guys, and still make it. You don't need much leverage, a flick of the wrist is enough, and even if you are out of balance it is still close enough to the basket that you can get away with all of those imperfect things and compromises in mechanics. You'd make that one hitting the rim, won't be a swish, but that shot in the same circumstances from the three point line would hit the other side of the rim or even be an air ball...

When Curry shoots a regular three his upper arm is basically parallel to the floor. On his long threes the angle is less than 90, his elbow is closer to the floor than his shoulder. Young always has that angle less than 90 and it gets even smaller the further he goes away from the three point line. Lillard also lowers his set point.
