The lack of documentation concerning Billy the Kid’s personal effects after his supposed death stands out like a sore thumb. Sheriff Brady’s personal effects all documented including what denomination is cash on his person, serial numbers on his firearms ect. Same with Bob Olinger, precise documentation including gun serial numbers and personal effects such as wallet contents. After Stinking Springs, very detailed account of weapons and other equipment annotated. Ft Sumner at Maxwell’s home a brief description of a knife and pistol. Nothing accounted for in detail after the killing and arguably the most historical event in New Mexico history. No pistol serial number, no account of associates, horse equipment or details of recent whereabouts. Just a brief coroner jury report with very little detail. Brushy was the Kid.

Brett, Thank You for all the research( countless hours, I’m sure) that you put into this video, as a former LE Officer and father of 2 current LE, I always look for evidence so I really appreciate your videos! Anyone can read one book or listen to a few podcasts and develop a very faulty opinion but to the analytical mind, hard evidence and documentation is king. I have been studying the Billy the Kid story for 15 years now, and this old cop is 99.9% convinced that Brushy Bill was the Kid!! Would gladly pay for an autographed copy of your book! Keep up the good work!!

Sooo glad to see a post from you Brett. It seems crazy to me that Brushy Bill seemed to be all over the southwest, and know about these mundane events, like the horse race etc. How could a person making up a story, know about all of these events over many states, during the correct time frames? If you were convinced that he was making up his story, then I would think that the only plausible explanation would be that he had a photographic memory, and read everything in the newspapers and remembered dates, and was able to piece together an elaborate story. That really seems highly unlikely. And of course there is other evidence that wouldn't be in any newspaper, that he knew about. And the most insane thing to me, is that when the book was published, many historians were saying that he couldn't be BTK because he got so many things wrong about the Lincoln County War, and would list some of the things he supposedly got wrong. Later researchers would discover that Brushy Bill was right, and the historians were wrong. The most notable to me is about the black soldiers in Lincoln. Later, researchers found court records that describe that there was black soldiers in Lincoln when he said that they were there. There are many, many more. If someone believes these are all just coincidences, then I have ocean front property I'd like to sell you in Nevada.
