No doubts, a signature match of the end 80s early 90s tennis history, the best era ever.

My favourite era of tennis. 1970s-1999. Loved the tennis fashion with the collared shirts and short shorts. Serve and volley tennis. Connors, Borg, McEnroe, Lendl, Becker, Edberg and so many others.

Some tennis experts keep highlighting about Lendl struggling to beat Becker in GS finals.. but few talk about the fact that Becker was 8 years younger to Lendl and that made a big difference post 1987. Before 1987 Lendl beat Becker in 2 Masters finals and all 3 Masters matches and other key finals with the exception of the Wimbledon finals. Ironically they are quick to point out the age gap between Connor’s and Lendl though. Also Becker by 21 was at this peak while Lendl at 29 on the decline and yet Lendl managed to win this match at the age of 32 against a 24 year old opponent. Hats off to Lendl for pulling this one out. He just persevered and wanted to win this one to prove a point to himself rather than anyone else!

Ivan Lendl's only win over Boris Becker in a grandslam match. They have 11-10 H2H Lendl leads in all competition. Thank you for sharing this legendary match, Lendl is my favorite tennis player since I was a kid.

Lendl made it to 19 GS finals. His record in those matches was 8-11. I was a diehard Lendl fan growing up, and I always felt that his nerves got the best of him on many occasions in those finals matches. I wanted him to actually show more emotion, and even yell at times, just to loosen up a bit and let out some frustration. At the time, I did admire his restraint, but wished he was better at shaking off the nerves. It was great to see him reach the QF as the 9th seed in this tournament. I think this was his last QF appearance or higher in a Grand Slam.

the pendulum swings back and forth each set. this is one of the most emotionally tense matches of all time.

Lendl's racquet in particular sounds like it's very tightly strung.
